Should You Get a Virtual or In-Person Medical Receptionist?

Should You Get a Virtual or In-Person Medical Receptionist?
Today, we’re going to help you determine whether you should hire an in-person or virtual medical receptionist for your medical practice.

Any medical practice is going to need a medical receptionist. When hiring one for your practice, however, you have two options: hire an in-person receptionist, or hire someone to work virtually. Deciding between the two can be a difficult decision, which is why we’re going to go over the differences of each option with you. Today, we’re going to help you determine whether you should hire an in-person or virtual medical receptionist for your medical practice.

Working Hours

The working hours of an in-person medical receptionist will be more limited. This is because they can only work during office hours. This is not the case when you hire a virtual receptionist. Since they don’t work from the office, they aren’t limited by the office hours of your facility. This makes them available around the clock, which could even include weekends or holidays.

Interacting With Patients

The patient experience is very different for in-person vs virtual medical receptionists. In-person receptionists are interacting with patients face-to-face. This makes for a more personable experience. The only limitation is the aforementioned office hours, which limits how often patients and receptionists communicate with each other.

A virtual medical receptionist doesn’t have this same in-person interaction with their patients. Instead, they communicate through phone and email, among other digital communication options. By using these options, virtual receptionists can interact with patients whenever they wish, and vice-versa. This means they’re always available to address patient concerns.

Operational Expenses

An in-person medical receptionist will require a salary, as well as benefits. You’ll also need to give them office space since they’ll be working at your medical facility. Virtual medical receptionists lower the overhead costs you incur. There is also no need for physical space in the office since they don’t do work from the office.

Technology Integration

Technology is becoming increasingly utilized in the medical field, and medical receptionists will need to be familiar with these new digital tools. In-person receptionists might have to be trained to use these new tools in order to use them effectively on the job. Virtual receptionists, on the other hand, are typically familiar with these new technologies already. This means they likely won’t need the same level of training as in-person receptionists.
